An AI for FO
I have finally reached the point that I need to test my FreeOrion ResourceAI. Yeah! Now if only I could get the stupid thing to compile on Arch! I have all dependencies, but GiGi errors out at the latest revision when I attempt to compile it. I moved back to rev. 639 (from 648 ) and am trying again. It’s been going alot longer, so maybe it will work this time. In the meantime I also made a Pownce profile here.
When the fire goes out
This is a short post. Just a couple of lines. I was reading a series of articles on Why Ubuntu (Still) Sucks and realized something. Peter was right. He said in the last days people would be willfully ignorant. And boy he was right. Mr. Kennedy is willfully ignorant of why MSFT is failing. People don’t want a new computer every two years. Or at least most don’t. My dad does, but he is a tech-inclined guy. I can’t think of any average consumers (aka not programmers) that would like to buy a new computer and set it up every two years. WOW this turned out longer than I expected. And the reason I didn’t defend ubuntu from Mr. Kennedy is because it doesn’t need defending. Why defend water from fire? The water may disappear for a time, but it will come back no matter how many times you throw it on a fire. And eventually the fire goes out.
Finally! No more updates! (well, almost)
Finally the amount of updates for Hardy has gone down. Now, in the past few days I have only had 8 updates. Thats only a little over 2 a day! Thank you Canonical for finally bringing down the update load!
Firefox 3 is NOT Ready
I know I am not alone in this warning, several others have voiced it. I have used FF3 for the past 3 months, and while it does have some improvements, nothing matches FF2’s massive amounts of plugins. Only a tiny fraction of old plugins work with FF3 (luckily ScribeFire and Web Developer Toolbar both do). This is not the browser that should be included in Ubuntu Hardy. A simple cost/benefit analysis will tell you that this is not worth it.
I’m still waiting for Firebug and JetEye to work in FF3!! Many others on the UbuntuForums have voiced the same concern. Just remember, I warned you!
Will the updates never end?
Right now Ubuntu Hardy (v. 8.04) is 1 week away from release. The problem is this: there are still over 100 updates daily! No one wants to have their internet connection bogged down like that. But it is probably a good sign. All these updates contain bugfixes, its just too bad we can’t download only the updated portion of a package instead of the whole thing. That would ease the internet load, especially for people with 56k connections.
